Car Insurance

Car insurance concerns the use of your vehicle on Cyprus roads and the responsibilities that come with it.

What is it?

Car insurance is an agreement that transfers part of the financial risk of using a vehicle to an insurer. In its basic form it concerns liability towards third parties — injury to other people or damage to their property. Wider forms of cover may also address damage to your own vehicle. What is actually included depends on the specific contract and insurer, and is always confirmed case by case.

Who is it for?

It is relevant to anyone who owns or keeps a vehicle used on a road in Cyprus: households with one or more cars, newly qualified drivers, people who also use their car for work travel, and owners of higher-value vehicles.

Legal position

Is it compulsory in Cyprus?

Compulsory by law

In Cyprus, third-party liability motor insurance is compulsory by law for any motor vehicle used on a road. Wider forms of cover, such as damage to your own vehicle, are not required by law but may be required contractually — for example by a finance provider or a leasing company.

General information only. Requirements can change and depend on your activity — Vesta can help clarify what applies to your circumstances.

When might you need it?

01

You buy or import a vehicle and need to put it on the road.

02

A family member passes their driving test and will use the family car.

03

Your daily journey changes, or you start using the car for work as well.

04

Your policy is approaching renewal and your circumstances have changed.

05

You travel abroad with your vehicle or regularly lend it to another driver.

These are illustrative circumstances, not a description of policy terms, conditions or exclusions.

Why review this cover?

A road incident can create obligations far larger than the value of the vehicle itself, particularly where other people are involved. A periodic review helps establish whether the details on the policy still match how the vehicle is actually used, who drives it and what it is currently worth.

The Vesta approach

Understand first, then solutions.

Before discussing any solution we want to understand how the vehicle is actually used: who drives it, how often, for what purpose and in what conditions. We then look at the obligations that apply to you and the points worth reviewing, so that your decision rests on understanding rather than on a price comparison.

Next step

Let's look at your circumstances.

Tell us how things work in practice and we will explain what is worth reviewing before any solution is discussed.
